Presentation
synopsis:
Every year
thousands of projects get cancelled,
fail in delivering results, or end
up costing significantly more than
their original projections. Research
shows that often, failure comes as a
surprise and severe issues surface
so late in the game that recovery is
nearly impossible. Project and
program managers are in need of
tools to diagnose symptoms of
failure early enough and to
implement steps for a speedy
recovery. This practical
presentation demonstrates a proven
method for assessing project health
and also includes tips for
conducting project recovery efforts.

Presentation synopsis:
Thinking on Purpose for
Project Managers: Outsmarting Evolution
Your brain is the most
powerful tool you have. Unfortunately, it can
also be your worst enemy. The human brain has
been shaped by eons of evolution for one
solitary purpose - keeping us alive in a
threatening environment long enough to
successfully reproduce. Unfortunately for us,
the automatically generated habits and patterns
of thought, or mindsets, that helped our
ancestors survive back then can be useless or
even actively harmful when applied in modern-day
situations. As a result, faulty mindsets and
autopilot thinking - and our inability to detect
these "mindfields" before they blow up in our
faces - can cause problems ranging from failed
projects at work to relationship woes at home,
as well as the many other seemingly inexplicable
disasters that crop up in our day to day lives.
Join Bill
Richardson for an informative and entertaining
look at how your thinking determines your
outcomes, and learn how you can retool these
processes to ensure that your brain is working
for you, rather than against you, in both your
professional and personal life.

Presentation synopsis:
Experienced
project managers know that it takes more than
project plans and issue logs to successfully bring
in a difficult project. Soft skills are the key to
success. This wide range of abilities includes team
building, conflict resolution, internal marketing,
meeting management and coaching.
How can an
individual lean these skills? I know nothing beats
experience and self review but courses and workshops
such as these can help. This one hour session will
expose you to the world of project management
politics and give you an understanding of the
proficiencies involved.

This was my first PMI Event. I found it
extremely professional and well done. Thank
you. |
| |
|
Outstanding repeat performance! Excellent use of
panel members for credibility. |
|
|
|
Offer sessions without dinner. |
| |
|
Very good presenation. Helped a lot. Shows the
experience of the presenter in her profession. |
|
|
|
Very interesting topics. Useful information.
Good Q&A. |
| |
|
Good presenation and helpful panel to answer
questions. Useful slides. Good food. |
| |
|
The presenation was exclusively for IT PMs. What
about other industries? ( ex. Communications and
healthcare) |
| |
|
Very good presenation. Would be nice if parking
was provided. |
|
|
|
Handsout will be beneficial |
| |
|
Topics very well chosen - very useful and
interesting especially for new project
managers. |
| |
|
Neeta was very clear. It was a good idea to
bring in Maro and Clayton to provide a different
perspective. |
| |
|
Excellent content & presentatio. Knowledgeable
panel was helpful. |
|
|
|
Good presenter. Larger room would be better. |
| |
|
Fix feedback hum of sound system. Make sure
panelists also use mic too. Make sure questions
from participants are repeated over the mic by
the panelist. |
|
|
|
very referent |
| |
|
Email stated presentation would start at 7PM,
arrived before 7PM and it had already started. |
| |
|
Difficult to hear at times. Dinner was
excellent. Useful information espeially for
someone who has worked for the same organization
for several years and never used the services of
a recruiter. |
| |
|
Mic required for audience to ask questions. Hard
to hear. Presenter should have had mic attached
to her, it was hard to hear at the back of the
room. |
| |
|
Very well organized. Well time mgmt. I really
enjoyed it. Thank you to the organizer. |
|
|
|
Area traffic is brutal. Parking expensive. |
| |
|
For the size of the room, the presenters should
repeat peoples questions |
|
|
|
Next door very noisy. |
|
|
|
The noise in the adjacent room was distracting. |
| |
|
How about bringing in an organization that hires
direct. It might have a different take at this. |
| |
|
The main presenter could have involved other
panel members for more Q&A |
|
|
|
Very informative presentation |
|
|
|
Presenters need to repeat all questions asked by
audience |
|
|
|
All presenters need mic |

Presentation synopsis:
Stealth
Methodology Adoption
Facing resistance when implementing new development
process changes within an organization? Sometimes big
changes need to be packaged to make them appear to be
minor adjustments to the current process. Agile software
development methods can coexist within SW-CMM/CMMI
environments, but sometimes they need to be described in
a way that makes them seem less threatening to the
"process police" -- this presentation will show you how.

Presentation synopsis:
Transforming Organizations with Project Management
Excellence – the OPS Experience
The Project Management Centre of
Excellence (PMCoE) is a Branch within the Modernization
Division (MD) of the Ontario Provincial Ministry of
Government Services.
The mandate of MD is to build
capacity across the Ontario Public Service (OPS) to
create and sustain transformational change and achieve
modernization objectives by providing management
frameworks, methodologies, tools, learning and
consulting services, and to lead and support corporate
programs and projects that advance the modern OPS
agenda.
PMCoE provides services supporting
the building OPS project management capacity. Projects
are the primary vehicle to introduce change, it is
critical that OPS ministries improve their capacity to
effectively lead, plan, implement and manage projects to
deliver transformation results.
PMCoE has developed and implemented
an Integrated Project Management Framework and
Methodology (IPMFM), providing a standardized approach
to project management across the OPS. The framework is
based on global best practices (PMI’s PMBOK® Guide) and
is adapted for the OPS
The OPS
is also breaking new ground to modernize government with
the implementation of a Project Portfolio Management
(PPM) framework and application and aligning the IPMFM
to match System Development Life Cycle and other IT
related drivers.
