Kathleen has been managing IT projects since 1987, formally the last ten years for a large financial institution (30,000+ employees). She is the lead of Bank of Montreal’s Project Management Centre of Competency, where she is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the Project Management process. Kathleen also provides mentoring to the organization’s management population. Her industry experience spans IT, financial institutions, logistics, oil and gas, and bio-remediation.

Presentation synopsis

Attend this session to learn how to build a new kind of project map that enables you to move your project forward with confidence. See your whole project on a page, and a complete picture of all your stakeholders with information flow. Kathleen will also teach you a fast diagramming technique that will support more complete creation of: program charters, project charters, scope statements, stakeholder lists, change management plans, deliverable descriptions, information flow, communication plans and learning plans. This talk will also explain where effort should be concentrated and what groups might have more dependencies or require more attention. Includes demonstration and group exercise.

Peter Monkhouse from Toronto, Canada has been a member of PMI since 1996.  On January 1, 2009, he started his three year term on the PMI Board of Directors.

Mr. Monkhouse is currently the Program Director, Engineering, Architecture, and Science at The Chang School of Continuing Education, Ryerson University.  Throughout his project management career that expands almost 30 years, Peter has actively led projects and project managers in the areas of consulting, engineering, information technology, and organizational change for multi-national organizations.

Mr. Monkhouse is Past President of the PMI Southern Ontario Chapter, one of PMI’s largest chapters with over 4,000 members.  Peter has served on a number of PMI Member Advisory Groups (MAGs) and in 2008 was the Chair of the Canadian Mirror Committee for the ISO PC236.

Mr. Monkhouse received his BSc(Engineering) from Queen’s University and his MBA from the University of Toronto.  He obtained his PMP in 1999 and in May 2008 graduated from PMI’s Leadership Institute Masters Class.

Presentation synopsis

The 20th century brought organizational management of routine operations to a high level. But executing change in an increasingly fast-paced and competitive world remained a challenge – one that project management has evolved to meet. This presentation emphasizes that project management is a discipline distinct from “management in general,” and gives examples of organizations that are aligning their projects and programs with strategic goals.

Dhanu Kothari is an enthusiastic and a passionate motivational speaker with extensive breadth and depth of Project Management experience backed by 30 years of service in IT  with HP, DEC, Honeywell, Nortel, Scotia bank, Univac and the Norwegian Computing Center. His speeches, presentations and workshops, are consistently rated as “Excellent” and “Outstanding”. Dhanu, was recently named as a “PM Ambassador” by PM Forum (www.pmforum.org) for his contribution to Project Management and availability as a speaker for PM events worldwide.

He is president of D2i Consulting, a firm specializing in delivery and consulting including methodology, process, governance, audits, coaching and training.  Dhanu holds a B.Sc. in Mech. Eng. from Pune, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Production Eng. from the Univ. of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

Dhanu is a past President of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Southern Ontario Chapter, Canada, and he is the current President of the Newmarket Rotary Club. Dhanu has also authored two books on Project Management titled, “Rainbows & Ratholes: Best Practices for Managing Successful Projects” and “From Ratholes to Rainbows: Managing Project Recovery”.

The workshop is designed to bridge the gap between the theory and practice of Project Management, especially as it applies to the world of IT projects.  Such projects have become increasingly complex, and are characterized by accelerated changes in technology, new business models, virtual teams and increased expectations of the user community.

The workshop will also address key factors that contribute to a successful outcome for IT projects by meeting or exceeding stakeholders’ expectations.  The speaker will share with us a summary of proven principles and guidelines that are consistently used by outstanding Project Managers, and can be implemented and integrated into any existing methodology or environment.

Ever wish you had a private coach when you needed one, to help you through the difficult challenges you face managing projects? And wouldn’t more get done in less time, and increase your skill level as you go? Well, at GTISLIG, we have brought back our ‘situational coaching program’ to fill this need.

What is this program?

The Situational Coaching Program is designed to help project managers manage through the difficult parts of their projects with more skill and less wasted time.  Participants with expertise in certain skills and/or areas of project management (‘coaches’) will coach others seeking input (‘recipients’) to:

• Work through a current problem in the management of a project
• Solidify a specific skill in the area focused on above, so it can be applied in any situation (the mature skill phase of the above point);
• Take any aspect of their project management practice at a higher level of mastery
