Presentation synopsis |
The marketplace is showing keen interest in agile
methods as a way of dealing with complex or high change
projects. While the adoption rate for agile methods is
increasing, people interested in trying these new
approaches are struggling with a common challenge: How
to estimate costs and schedules up front when using
methods that break projects into iterations that uncover
requirements and produce emerging solution designs
throughout the Projects.
This session will present participants with some
innovative and practical estimating and planning
techniques that can help them cope with the uncertainty
of complex projects while still helping them prepare
reliable budget and timelines.
Participants will learn:
- Why we plan in the first place and what makes a good
plan
- Why traditional planning fails
- The basics of agile planning including building
Release plans
Iteration plans
Day Plans
- Estimating with Story Points
- Estimating with Ideal Days
- The 3-Step Feature Prioritization Process
- Measuring and Forecasting Velocity
- Critical Chain Estimating and Scheduling
- Why Agile Planning Works
Materials
Participants will be provided with an in-class workbook
and the Agile Estimating and Planning Resource Kit
containing sample templates in MS Excel and MS Project
formats plus the Agile Auction Game files (retails for
$49.95 USD). In addition, participants will receive
Scrum in Under 10 Minutes, a DVD giving an overview of
one agile methodology that retails for $29.95. These two
discs alone are a $79.90 value!
